Maurice Béjart Is a French choregrapher and a opera director.
He was born in Marseille (France ) on January 1st, 1927 and died in Lausanne (Switzerland) on November 22, 2007 at the age of 80. He had just acquired the Swiss citizenship few months before his death.
Even if he was French born and started as dancer in Marseille, he spent most of his career in Belgium and Switzernad.
He was the founder and Director of the Ballets du XXième Siècle in Brussels (Belgium) from 1960 until 1987. The he moved to Lausanne (Switzerland) to create the still operating company Béjart Ballet Lausanne which became a worldwide famous ballet company touring the planet.
Jorge Donn, an Argentinian born ballet dancer, was a major source of inspiration for Maurice Béjart who creates famous ballet choregraphy to fit the dancer’s skill like Bolero de Ravel, Sacre du Printemps among others.
