Acrobat is a name of French origin acrobate which itself coming from Greek akrobatos which mean walking on tiptoe.
The acrobats are entertainer or sports person who perform acts that require skill, agility and coordination. They practice tumbling, swinging from a trapeze, or walking a tightrope. They are good at gymnastics, and some are good dancer.
Acrobatic were already mentioned and depicted in 2000 BC in Minoan art in Crete,then in Greece. they were considered as a religious ritual. In Ancient Greece and Rome as well as in the European Middle Ages noble courts Acrobatics performances were part of the important celebrations, feasts or dinners.
Since 200 BC, Acrobatics were part of the Chinese culture, and till today they continue to be practiced and are highly appreciated by all the population.
The Circus everywhere in the world are maintaining the tradition and recently Le Cirque du Soleil a French Canadian entertainment company renewed the tradition of the acrobatics with a worldwide success.

In the aerial art there is the so called Aerial Silk, which is a type of performance in which artists perform aerialbatics acrobatics while suspended with a special fabric. The fabrics used are very strong they are usually made of polyester lycra.
